OPINION/Why vote Avaram for President

dec09election

TC has endorsed Luxis Avaram (I-PFP) for President and here’s why:

AVARAM: THE CAMPAIGN FOR COMPREHENSIVE PROGRESS
My Fellow Citizens, I am not involving myself in this campaign to win, for I do not wish for my own benefit in this election.  My concern is that the candidates have allied themselves to a narrow set of policy issues, and this distresses me greatly.
With all due respect to President Gregory Hock, he has had limited vision, rather he has reused the same policies tried time and again.
Drmanhaton's AAP is a single-issue party that can achieve few to none results in one term of office.
I empathize with both these candidates and their causes; however, we must implement those changes and focus on a number of other issues of concern to Titulians.
1. The Legislature: The Admin has made it clear that we need to communicate with a single, consistent voice as to what our legislature should look like before they are going to take the trouble to code it and make it.  We have not done this so far.  The vacuum that President Hock has left on this issue has a ridiculous number of competing proposals that the Admin will not be able to work on.  A single proposition concerning the legislature, that answers all the questions posed by the Admin, must be passed by a wide margin to proceed.
2. Titulian Economy: As several of my fellow citizens have already stated, this is an area that has never reached anywhere close to the potential it has.  The Market must be allowed to compete if Titulians are seeking innovation and (most importantly) interaction.  Those Tollars ought to be used for something, but there are several blocks to progress.  The Anti-Admin Party is correct that Admin is part of the problem, but they are not the entire problem.  We must guide the Admin with meaningful reforms to create the tools Businesses and Consumers need to better interact with each other.
As well, once these ideas are implemented, it is important to ensure proper safeguards from future government intervention into these areas.  We  cannot set up a healthy economic system just to have the Admin replaced by the Government to fill the power vacuum.  We must trust our citizens to fill the void that will be the result of a freer market.
A final problem may be here that the President does not have a Minister for the Economy.  Titulia needs a constant advocate to improve the business climate, and I believe that any President needs this to remind him of the diverse needs our economy has.  I call upon Drmanhaton and President Hock to pledge to do so.
3. The Government: President Hock's Government is allotted a great number of pages for Government use.  His Administration is one in a long line of no longer chronicling Titulia's history.  Rather than reform these pages or put them to good use, he has simply let them lie fallow as the past several Presidents have.  The National Library and the General Court are far outdated pages.  These two, at a bare minimum, need to be updated so Titulians can read their laws and the stories of former Presidents - of our past struggles and victories.
4. Admin Relations:  The Anti-Admin Party does have a number of issues right, and I applaud Drmanhaton for his efforts.  My warning is this: conflict with the Admin takes time.  They have the benefit of being able to slow down the processes of Government and can outwait any Presidency if it begins with an absolutely hostile stance against them.  There is needed reforms, and we must commit ourselves to the long fight of achieving those goals; however, an Administration that focuses just on this will be one based on continuous conflict with the people running this site.  I, for one, do not find this to be a healthy democratic environment.
5. Responsiveness and Communication:  This is more of a personal leadership style than anything else.  Any President must be open to constant communication with the citizens.  As citizens, we have the right to be involved in negotiations about policy and nominations.  My experience has been that Presidents who are not able to commit to the activity of fulfilling this role or are too narrowly tailored to accept innovations proposed by those outside their Administration will fail.
I look forward to hearing your questions and engaging in this healthy debate.  I thank the PFP for nominating me, but I would like to make it clear that I intend to remain unaffiliated as a candidate.  For better or for worse, my involvement in this campaign is to spread the debate around a little - to open the candidates up to alternative views and to challenge the status quo.
